Shoes
We would like the von trapp children to have some black dress shoes to wear with their uniforms. Girls will be in flat "mary-janes", although Liesl's could be character shoes.
For their play clothes, we'd like to be able to switch to a more casual brown shoe, hiking boot, or sandal. The festival could use the same brown shoes, but not sandals.
Nuns/postulants/novices will need a plain black lace-up shoe. We will be looking at Payless, Walmart, Kohls and other places to see if we can find an easy and cheap source.
Women at the dance will need a dress shoe, but it need not be a character shoe. It just needs to go with the dress you are wearing to the party.
Men will need black lace-up shoes. We will provide boot-toppers for those needing boots.

Set assistance - please come help
Starting next week, we will have people building during the daytime at various points during the week, but we'll continue to have a cut list or construction list for simpler pieces available during evening rehearsals.

THANKS!
Volunteer Information
Please send the House Manager, Carla Conover, an email when you have read these notes and/or have any questions.
Thanks.
pconover@entouch.net
Q: What time do I need to be at the Theater?
A: 1 hour prior to performance.
Q: What do I wear?
A: A big smile! Nice pants or skirt, nice shirt, a dress. ( It used to be called Sunday clothes.)
A name badge will be provided.
Q: What can I NOT wear?
A: Jeans, t-shirts, shorts, flip-flops or tennis shoes. You are representing HFAC. First impressions do matter.
Q: What are my job responsibilities?
A:
Lobby guard- (will also usher and sell concessions)
· We cannot leave the lobby unlocked and unattended so one volunteer needs to stay in the lobby during the show. Please let Carla know when you would like to have a comp ticket for another night of the same production.
Late-comers will need to be escorted into the theater- some from the “back entrance”.(Audience right) Enter during a break in the scene. Once the show starts, all late–comers with seats in the middle of the row are not allowed to pass in front of other guests. They will need to sit towards the back on the end until intermission. Escort them to their seat with a flashlight if necessary. Don’t just open the door and shoo them in.
· After intermission move tables/chairs to the side.
Ushers-
· Man doors before 2:30/7:30 to keep guests from entering early.
· Open doors only after OK from House Manager (Carla Conover). Sometimes there are handicapped/special guests that need to be seated first, and stage managers and directors don’t know about it.
· Greet guests, hand out programs. No need to pull stubs.
· Assist guests inside the theater. Show (usher) them to their seats. Our elderly patrons will probably need help up the stairs. Please do not point and say, “Up there.” Do not ask if they need help- just look at their ticket and show them to their seat.
· Remind guests to not bring food or water into the theater before the show and during intermission. (Bottled water may be closed and kept inside a purse, but may not be drunk during the show.)
· Help with concessions during intermission and before house is open.
· After show- check theater for trash, programs, etc.
· 1 usher might need to monitor restrooms during intermission to allow female guests to use men’s room if empty/ keep males out if there is a female inside.
· You may need to direct patrons to our academy restrooms.
Concessions/Merchandise-
Sell before and during intermission. Restock shelves as needed.
Count cash in box before and after show. A record slip is in the box.
After show –(all)
· Check bathrooms for paper supplies in RR before/after show. Additional paper towels, TP are in the storage closet in the back hallway.
· Empty trash into dumpster , located in the alley, if needed.
· Straighten lobby as needed. Stack chairs/tables on Fri. and Sun.
Last show of production – please help strike if you can. Many hands make for light work!
Q: When may I go in to watch the show?
A: About 5 min. before the show.
Q: Where do I sit to see the show?
A: Two volunteer seats have been reserved for you in the front row ( A115-116 ).
In the event the show is sold out there will be volunteer chairs next to tech booth.
Q: I already have reserved seats for the date I am volunteering. May I use my comp ticket another night?
A: Your comp ticket is for the night of service only. Note: It is difficult to get to the concession stand early at intermission if you are in the middle of a row, so please sit on the end. It really is better to help on a night when you do not already have tickets. Lobby guards will get a reserved ticket for another show. Let Carla know ASAP which show .
Q: May I bring my young child with me?
A: Please make other arrangements for your child if he needs to be supervised by you. It’s too hard to do both well. We ask that only those 16 years and up volunteer to usher/pass out programs. While your 7 year old may look cute, it is not the professional look we are striving for. Responsible children may help with concessions by getting drinks out of the fridge, but will need to purchase a ticket to see the show. (Volunteer seats are limited.)

Do-re-mi Hand Motions
Hands should be flat, like “paper” in paper rock scissors when possible, or like you're making a puppet or a duck mouth with your hands, for the higher notes.
Position for each note in relation to your body:
(Low) Do – below belly button
(Low) Re – belly button
Mi – around middle of ribs
Fa – chest/collarbone level
So – chin level (probably about here your elbows won’t be able to be out anymore)
La – eye level
Ti – top of head
(High) Do – just above head level
(High) Re – Just a little higher than high Do
So now practice, please:
So - Do - La - Fa - Mi - Do - Re
So - Do - La - Ti - Do - Re - Do

Random notes - October 11
So, now that all the kiddos have breathed a sigh of relief... I have exciting news: We are adding two more shows! We will add two 7:00 pm Sunday shows on December 4 and December 11. That means that these will be busy days for these kids, as 2 shows in one day is very strenuous. We will give the cast time to eat quickly between shows on those two Sundays, and we'll provide dinner.
Children will need dress shoes and play shoes appropriate for the period.
We need to find out if someone has:
1) a small patio table with 2 chairs that can be used on the Von Trapp terrace.
2) a rolling cart that can be used to serve coffee and pastries
We have several ladies working on props and costumes, so you may see lists of prop or furniture needs appearing on this blog. When you do, please see if there's anything that you can help us with.
Shows with fewer than 50 seats left:
December 3 (50), December 4 (0), Dec 11 at 3pm (6), Dec 18 (50)
In addition, the 25th and the 27th are already half sold.
We will begin working on set soon, and we'll need lots of HELP!
Nuns' CDs
I have some CDs made up that have just nuns' music on them, including the Mono chant, Morning Hymn, Angelus Bells, Alleluia, Wedding Processional, Finale Ultimio, Climb Every Mountain, Maria
Please stop by the studio to pick them up, as your next music rehearsal isn't until the 17th.

December 4th and 11th are SOLD OUT
If you have a ticketing form, please draw a line through afternoon shows on December 4th and 11th. Other Sunday shows are close to filling up, so you may choose to purchase the tickets online using the "castsale" code. We have now added evening shows on December 4th and 11th at 7pm.
The shows with the most seats available are Friday and Saturday evenings during the last two weekends. If you have large families wanting seats together, and you're using a ticketing form, you might try to steer them toward those dates.
There is a strong chance that we will be adding shows on the evenings of December 4th and 11th.
